Happy Birthday today to our wonderful hostess, Aunt Jean!
Cookouts, cousins and (a toy) car...
It was all good fun with family during our visit...Sophie and Luke are a month apart, have never met, but as they saw each other they ran with open arms and embraced...one of my favorite memories of the whole trip! And then they SHARED the toy car...what sweet peas :)

Cape Cod Beach Fun!
We were lucky to have great weather while out east and visited the beach a few times. We went the night that we got there and got our feet wet under the moonlight which was a memory moment :) Luke was fearless except when we visited during high tide and the waves were a little bit bigger than he might have liked. It didn't stop him from playing in the water, but he would run in and then run out with a big smile on his face.

Cape Cod - Getting there and back
We went to Cape Cod for a visit with some of Steve's relatives last week. Gma Susan and Gpa Paul were there as well and it was a lovely time with aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be more pictures posted of out time there but the travel deserved its own post. Luke did so well with everything, early flights, security checks, boarding, flying, etc...We were so proud of him and thankful that the travel went well.Mom, we are flying!
Those engines are a little loud
Boarding our return flight...we waited so long that we were paged over the intercom. Steve pre-boarded and got the carseat secured and we boarded last to shorten the time in our seats. It was a great plan.
Just making sure he knows all of the safety information!
I will admit (now that it is a funny story)that by the time we landed in Boston on our way there we were all a little spent. Luke had a meltdown because he couldn't open the Hertz display case and play with their model cars, then I had a fit b/c he was overcooked, it was blazing hot and just because. I am a huge naysayer of tv's in the car, but when we upgraded our rental and I realized it had a DVD player, I have never read the instruction manual to anything so fast. Luke started clapping when George came on and watched happily all the way to the Cape. Go technology, indeed.

Buddies
Luke went to school today and was really happy to see the kids and teachers. I can't describe how fun it is to open the door with him walking in by my side and hear several kids shout out a 'hey Luke'. Today a little boy (3 yr. old)came up to tickle him and say hi and his regular crew of girls were all smiles and greetings. Precious. I asked him today if he 'loved all of his girls or what' and he quickly said 'what'...okay, then.
Anyway, he came home from a busy and good morning and pointed to his bed where he immediately fell asleep and is resting happily.
Here is a picture of Luke with his buddy, Star. I am not sure which one of them enjoyed the 'get well' pallet more ;)
PS: Have I mentioned that Luke is just blowing up with skills? He finishes nearly any sentence in his books, is stringing 2-3 words together at times, works out multisyllable words with concentration, is counting out loud, says his ABC's...the list goes on and it is so amazing and fun!
Lastly, here is a picture of my lovely grilled cheese and organic spaghetti o's that I enjoyed for lunch. Notice the china. My Aunt Ellen started to use her wedding china on an everyday basis a few years ago saying that it wasn't worth having it if it wasn't enjoyed. We have been cleaning out drawers, etc...and I thought of her reasoning and we have made the switch. Even simple things taste better on a pretty plate!

Feeling better
By last night Luke was out practicing his golf game and this morning has been a treat for me (and him I think!). I kept him home and we have been having fun playing outside, eating Popsicles, emptying the utensil drawer (Luke's handy work) and securing cork board for an art wall. I have learned quickly that preschool sends home lots of wonderful works of art so I am going to have a rotating wall of awesomeness...Happy happy happy times.

Sick
Last night we headed to the ER at midnight with a full moon shining down on us to get Luke checked out. He woke up after going to bed normally and after having a great day together pulling at his right ear and telling me "ear, ow". I gave him some tylenol and got him back to sleep but that didn't last and his doc confirmed my plan of action and said to just get to the ER.
So after getting checked out, the nurses and doc were wonderful, determining that he has an infection in the right ear, picking up prescriptions, getting a snack and back to bed around 3:30, then up again at 7, we are all just laying low and Luke is getting better. He is very alert, active, happy and drinking a lot. He even asks for more of his medicine when he takes the daily dose :) Here he is minutes ago relaxing with tired eyes on his pallet with his pals. He was a champ last night, too, miserable untilhe got some numbing drops (about 1:30) and a popsicle from the very kind Nurse Bobbie.

What happy birthday really means...
If you mention a birthday around here, Luke will immediately start saying 'cake' and looking around for the sweet treat...Here he is having some of my cake for breakfast (yes, breakfast) and then pushing a stool over to the counter where we kept it so that he could try and get more. Gotta respect that focus and drive, right?

Tis the season
To learn that you only pick tomatoes when they are RED! Luckily, Luke is pretty good with his colors and has caught on to the idea of leaving the green ones on the vine a bit longer. Also, luckily, the tomatoes are all turning red so he can pick at will and doesn't get a lecture about red vs. green :) ha
He really does enjoy watching the flowers grow and the bees work on them and has a two year old's appreciation for the outside and nature. I am so happy for that. We were looking through a gardening magazine last week and noticed a big picture of black eyed susans so we looked around the yard for the 'real thing' and now when I ask him where black eyed susans are...he goes right to them ;) Love that brain in action.

My Girl
Luna is NINE today and has been laid up with a sore leg for a week now...We are resting her and massaging her and medicating her, and I am confident that she will improve with rest, rest, and more rest, but I have a tough time seeing her hurt. We will still get some DQ soft serve and dish it up to her on a pretty plate and give her extra lovin' today!
The good news is that she is still so sweet, so smart and such a shameless sun worshiper.
I love Luna. Happy Birthday, girl! Thanks for nine years of adventures with you by my side!

My Larry Bird Birthday*
*Thank you, Shannon, for finding a way to make #33 special!
Today I am 33, and it is my favorite birthday yet! Luke sang happy birthday to me this morning going "happy, happy, happy, mommy, mommy, mommy"
This weekend was full of fun and celebrating and love. I am so lucky and thankful for my family and the wonderful life that I share with them. Saturday, I took Luke to the lake for some beach time. We normally stay there for about an hour, but he LOVES it and I had to bribe him away after 2 1/2 hours and nearly falling asleep in the sand! Here he is as we left, happily reading and snacking.
He was asleep before we got home. I spend his long naptime on the deck soaking up some sun, enjoying a summer BLT with a tomato from our yard, talking to my amazing friend Lesley and photographing some beauty that has grown happily in the backyard.
I also got to visit with my parents and take a quick swim before it was time for round two (post nap) with Little Man. Sunday and today have continued the party, but I will have to write about that fun later...
