A boy with a book, a bagel and a basket

Last night Luke climbed into a cozy little spot while I put some laundry away, said yes when I asked him if he wanted to read while he relaxed and kept his Panera goods close by in the back of his dumptruck while he read about, you guessed it, trucks!

I asked him to show me his 'kiss face' here Really reading and doing the 'wooo wooo' sound for the firetrucks!

Where's Waldo, I mean Luke

We have a real hide & seek lover on our hands...he will make a game out of folding laundry. The best is when he sits in the middle of a room and covers his eyes because it is his turn to 'hide'...love it!

Friday, I was mowing the backyard so that it was nice for the weekend (of course). As I mowed I started trying to mow different designs into the lawn just for fun and to be creative. As I was doing this, I thought surely decorative lawn mowing is a sign that this temporary housewife is ready to go back to work, surely...or else I just need some therapy. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there that do silly things just to do them...(that is every mom, right?)

Speak English, Mom!

Aunt Shannon and Uncle Eric sent Luke a book for Steve's birthday. Steve is getting used to his son getting presents instead of him, and he loves it! As you can see from these pictures, the book is a BIG HIT, but I think we need Mum Susan to read it to him because he doesn't understand my attempt at Italian:) Grandmas are now referred to as "mum" and he says it with authority :)

I read this to him in Italian the other day, or at least attempted to, and he kept looking at me laughing and saying "mama", like what kind of jibberish are you saying, you are supposed to tell me about the farm and tractor and animals, silly!

Thanks so much Aunt Shannon & Uncle Eric!

As I am typing this, by the way, I just got booted from my seat so that his trains can choo choo across it...It is his world, I just type in it!

I might not want to get him a sandbox, but...and some birds

Some friends and family (my mom) have been after me to get Luke a sandbox or at least put sand in the side of the water table that it is meant for. I just don't have the personality that can deal with cleaning up sand for the rest of my life (husband (who is very tidy) 2 dogs 1 child = NO SAND! I have enough to sweep every day) so I continue to tell anyone that feels Luke is being denied a childhood right that they can have a sandbox at their house for him to play with (love you mom).

This personality trait of mine does not extend to other sensory items so today Luke got a shaker and a bowl of a salt/flour combo and his trucks were BUSY...it all works out (and flour doesn't track into the house!)

We also have been enjoying our own bird viewing station on the deck...cardinals, robins, finches, bluebirds and the rose breasted grosbeak (got that name thanks to Gma Susan's detective work!) Good, good (and pretty)fun! Luke will cheep to them and try to get them to visit with us ;)

For my memory's sake, today was just a spectacular day spent with Luke. He slept in until 9, ate a good breakfast of eggs and toast and juice (and then a popsicle), spent lots of time outside with his trucks and then on my lap reading books in the shade, then we took off to get a lemonade and treat for a brownbag lunch concert in the center of town. We listened to some really good blues music while sitting or walking as close to Route 51 as possible in order to watch the cars, trucks, taxis, ambulances, cement mixers, etc...a train also went by so the concert was a big hit! After that fun, he wanted to play hide and seek in the city's flowers but we hightailed it out of there for a trip to the library to cool off and play/read a bit - he found some beanbag chairs that he loved lounging in while I read to him and we found BOB THE BUILDER books...wow! The we had a quick errand and a run through the car wash...he was actually beat so he had two stories and knocked out for an afternoon nap. I love this time with him so much!

Visit to Papa Nick's boat

Sunday, I took my parents and Luke for breakfast and then Dad wanted to check on his boat since it had rained a TON and he was worried it might be full of water. It did have to be pumped out, but not before we checked out another favorite spot at the lake and did a little wading around the parking lot. Did I mention that it rained a TON over the weekend?
