Farm Kid/City Kid

We got to surprise Aunt Ellen and Uncle Mike on our way to Chicago! We had a great visit with them, and Luke LOVED their farm. It is beautiful. Uncle Mike's flowers are amazing and the whole property is like visiting a special wonderland. As Steve said when we left "Luke thinks their place is Disney World!" Golf cart rides through mystery forests, chickens, a turkey and a rooster, a camper to explore and lots more fun. We all love Ellen and Mike, and we were really thrilled we got to visit! I loved seeing Luke give Mike a big hug when we left.

An hour after we left the farm, here he is at our hotel room door...

Arrived at Trump Tower in the city with a warm welcome for Luke. A new hat and a cone of cotton candy...He is carrying his Cars rug - a must comfort of home worthy of a trip to the city. What a kid!

He is a great traveler. We were able to stop at an outlet mall that has a Stride Rite and get him some new fall shoes. He found Lightning McQueen tennis shoes that light up and I should have bought three pairs because I think he might sleep in them he loves them so much! It was fun to have him pick out his new shoes, and he now wears an 8 1/2! When did all that growing happen? He is out of 'baby' shoes....wow!

What a week!

Luke is serious about his love of chocolate milk.

These two make a fine looking pair (and date for mommy)

We ran into Gma Jackie on campus....

Went swimming with our pal, Hannah! She is about to have a new little sister :)

Luke offered me the cake part of my 'birthday muffins' and was gracious enough to eat the icing off of the tops.

Focus...

Dad came over on my b-day and made some great eggs with questionable hollandaise sauce ;)

Busy in the kitchen...

They look really good, right?

birthday coffee break. Photo by Luke.

Outdoor chairs getting some indoor use. Drive to lake for a swim with this handsome guy!

Star went with for the b-day swim and was conked out the rest of the afternoon!

Mommy, help! My foot is stuck in the slinky!

Re-enacting the 'attack of the slinky'

More birthday fun at the Fish Co. on Thursday night! Luke loved the calamari and fried clams!

What a crew! The ride there and back was 2x as exciting as the actual dinner, which was super fun. It was quite a fun and memorable evening.

Love my babe!

This one was taken with the flash...

It was a full moon Thursday night, so it was a real treat to watch the moon rise and take a walk once we were home around the house.
Friday we met some friends at a nearby water park. WHAT FUN!

What better way to beat the heat on Saturday than an afternoon movie (Winnie the Poo) with mommy and gma. He liked Cars 2 better, but it was fun to have this time together.

I have never felt more loved or fortunate. Life is really good, and I am really thankful!

Good sports

Here are my dad and Luke panting after I took them on a wild goose chase Monday. The goal was to visit the University Museum and see a nice photography exhibit. It was the hottest day of the summer so far (not complaining, just saying) so in order to get out of the house, we still needed an indoor activity. The best laid plans. After a too long of a walk from the visitor parking (maybe a complaint) the museum was CLOSED! Duh, Erinn! So, we went to the nearby Japanese Garden where these fine fellas panted and drank water while I took the long walk back to get the car and pick them up with the A/C blasting. In retrospect, it may have been a more memorable trip to campus than if the museum had been open :)
The full moon was a wonderful sight last night on a wacky and fun ride home with our parents from another great birthday dinner. The Fish Co. was good, and the trip there and back was even better ;)

Luna

Luna would have been 10 today. I celebrate her when the moon shines, and when these beautiful moon flowers open at night.

I love when Luke mentions her. I am thrilled that he has a memory of her and smile when he talks about her being in the woods somewhere. That is a nice thought.

I miss her. I am so thankful that she came into my life and taught me a lot about caring for others and thinking of others. I wouldn't have Steve, Luke or Star if is wasn't for her.

Pretty girl :) Sending love your way...

Spontaneous fun & a swim class

Friday was rainy and overcast until mid-afternoon so Luke and I hung around the house for the morning and then got plans in place to have lunch and try to go for a pony ride. I was kind of bummed about the weather because some friends were going to meet us at the beach if it was nice, but the day turned into a good reminder of going with the flow because it was so great!

My friend, Heidi and her daughter, Addie, ended up meeting us for lunch at a favorite spot, Harbaugh's, and then also heading to the stables with us. It was great to have a friend along (and Luke & Addie love each other)
Here they are while we waited our turn for the ride. There were lots of mamas and ponies together in the stalls which we all loved. Addie was especially interested in their bodily functions, and Luke just liked watching them eat 'grass' and saying 'hi horse' to each of them.

I put a couple of tootsie pops in my bag before we left the house as an 'in case of emergency' treat. Saving them came in handy when I had taken Luke to the bathroom. While he was waiting for me, he was working on how to open the door to leave. We were at a stable so the restrooms are one room, kind of hot, etc...so I could understand why he wanted to get out, but if he managed to open the door, the others waiting in line for a ride would have seen a little too much of me...SO....I hurriedly and desperately told Luke he would get a sucker if he waited by the sink. BINGO...He waited while repeating "I want a sucker" and the door stayed shut. Thank you tootsie pop!

Luke and Addie were intrigued by the horse in the background. He is daddy to several of the ponies we saw and seemed to be eager to visit with them or to meet more moms that day. The kids kept climbing the fence he was in while we pulled them off and away over and over.

Helmets on, ready for the ride!

"This is fun, mommy!"

Cowboy Luke :) on Tootsie (how about that!) with Wrangler Pat leading the ride. Tootsie is a rescue horse and was super sweet and gentle. Luke liked petting her a bit as he rode...

The sun had started to come out by now and it was pretty steamy, but that couldn't stop the smiles.

I just like this picture because Luke looks so small on such a big animal! He handled the ride like a pro. The kids climb steps to get on the saddle and he was super comfortable climbing on and holding the saddle horn the whole time.

Cool stamps post-ride. Thank you, Addie, for posing while Luke ran around :)

Nothing beats climbing a 5 foot mulch pile. The pony ride was about 20 minutes, and we were at the stables for about three hours. It was so fun to visit while we chased this adorable pair of three year-olds around.

Smooch break ;)

Later that night, we met our parents at a nearby winery for music and food and fun outdoors. It was a great night of laughing and visiting. Here is Luke getting a ride to the car about 9:00...This child goes and goes....

Saturday, we lazed around a bit before heading out for a late breakfast and a make up swim class. This was the last class this summer, and Gma Jackie went along. Thanks for taking some pictures, mom! Luke really wasn't into the class, but we muddled through and enjoyed visiting with Gma after.

This is Luke 'saving me'. The teacher is a really nice retired teacher and he was going over some safety points with the class. I thought it was neat that he thought to show even little kids how they might be able to help someone smaller than them in the water.

He does love to jump in the water!

Susan and Paul were awesome enough to babysit last night so that Steve and I could have a date. We had a blast and delicious food & drinks and lots of laughs together over a long dinner at a favorite spot. All is well!
