The Maplice Train, by Luke

It all started when Uncle Glenn moved to Kansas City. He went outside one night and heard a noise. "HHHHOOOONNNKKK". There was a train next to him. It had maplicemen on it and it was a maplicetrain. And that is what happened.

I just ran in the house to get this down. Luke told us on the way back from a wonderful start-of-the-weekend trip to Giant City where we ran around once he decided he wasn't too 'code' and found giant piles of gravel to climb. They were mountains and castles and all sorts of fun things. Luke would tell me to go one way and he went another but reminded me to 'just yell' whenever I saw something interesting.

The story stemmed from him telling us that if we would stop talking he would tell us the story of the maplicetrain. So, there you have it. Maybe the best story I have ever heard. Being stopped by the Makanda train on the way home may have been inspirational as well?!

And, when I came in the house while they went to town to have pizza, Luke gave me a kiss and told me very seriously, 'don't step on any worms'.

Hello, weekend. I have been waiting for you, and I like how you are starting out.

maplice- pronounced ma-pleece, meaning police
code - means cold

Uncle Glenn was here last weekend and the photos are of some of our fun driving to breakfast, eating at Harbaugh's and just having some fun at home. Luke loved having his uncle here and only had to put him in timeout a couple of times ;)

From my phone

I am so behind on blogging but wanted to get some pictures & one story up before more time got away from me. The other night I put Luke to bed & his light up turtle was on so when we turned the lights out after stories the ceiling was illuminated with stars and a crescent moon from the holes in the turtle's back. It was really pretty & before I could comment, sleepy Luke said "it's so beautiful isn't it mommy?" great ten seconds to be a mom! Yes, it was beautiful.

Indoor Camping

As we continue to take our time (lots of time!) to put our house 'together' Luke finds play areas in a nearly empty bedroom that is perfect for a mid-day indoor camping experience

1-28-12 or A Random Day of Complete fun while on a mission to get Luke some new socks

On the way to the mall in Paducah, we went on a hike at Wildcat Bluff, cruised through Metropolis to meet Superman, ate at Tale-Gators and then found the socks we were looking for and headed back across the Ohio River and home. I can't even try to write about the level of fun that was had, but maybe the pictures help describe it.

A rock that mom liked...I had to get it on here ;)

2/2/2012

Happy Groundhog's Day! Luke wore his new Kermit t-shirt that his friend Keira really loved. The weather felt like spring and we all got some time outside. Then, we played with multiple straws, worked on a 'project' in the pantry (where he kept shutting the door on me because he was busy) had a fun dinner with Gpa Paul and then visited Gma Jackie and Gpa Nick....fast and family filled evening!

I love Luke! And...I love asking him a question that he answers "Yae-uh" for "yeah" Cuter heard than spelled, but I want to remember it. Happy near-weekend :)

Quick Trip

To Kansas City!
This fabulous lady and I hit the road Friday night and made it all the way to Kansas City as the clock struck midnight. We made the trip to see this show http://www.pattiandmandy.com/. It was a great time at an awesome theatre, http://www.kauffmancenter.org/about-the-center/the-building/
A big bonus to making the drive all at once on Friday was that we woke up steps from The Country Club Plaza shopping and had some time to visit a couple of favorite shops (that normally I can only shop online) before we met this handsome guy for a delicious lunch at Houston's! The first picture is of Glenn explaining some of his Crossfit workout to my mom.
Happy guy, still discussing workouts and what is good on the menu (EVERYTHING!)

Thanks for meeting us, Glenn! It was a big treat to visit with you and hear about the fun that you have been having. So far, you have called the Superbowl match-up. The 49's are tied with the Giants as I type, so we will see how it plays out.
Some interior shots of the Kauffman Center that do not do it justice. Stunning and simple and bright and pristine.

We were very caught up in the fun of this adventure. You don't need much sleep when there is so much to do in a tiny window of time. We spent (counting six hours of sleep) 16 hours actually in KC and we packed a lot of everything into the time.
 Mom enjoying the view.

Red velvet seats, great lighting and beautiful details in the interior of the performance area.
Loved this time with my mom. She is a warrior driver, patient with my bossypants, super fun and makes a six hour trip fly by. Thanks, mom, so much for this special time together. I will never forget it! XOXO
