The face
About a week ago, when Luke was working hard to open a bottle, he started making this face. I can now say "Hey, Luke, do the face" and I get this look...

So much to do...so little time
Last week we spent a sunny morning playing around the house and doing a few house jobs like laundry and mopping the kitchen floor before we finally got out to enjoy a really pretty day. It is good incentive to mop a floor by the way when your son dumps a full cup of water on the floor in an attempt to fill his kitchen's sink.
Back to the fun...I started out needing to give the car a good vacuuming and wipe down the interior so luckily I parked at the vacuum and Luke could see across the street to the trackhoe and bobcat working on a construction site. The trackhoe was pretty fun to watch because it was in constant action scooping dirt out of the ground and loading up the string of dumptrucks rotating through the site. We had actually just talked about trackhoes having 'teeth' on their buckets so Luke getting to see those 'teeth' in action so soon after learning about them was pretty exciting (for me at least! He was just thrilled watching the action) I could hear him yelling about the activity over the car vacuum if that helps explain his excitement.
After getting the car cleaned up (which lasts approximately 7 minutes) we grabbed some lunch (Lame-o mom moment - we went through MCD's drive thru) and then found a parking place behind the construction site and ate while we watched. Kind of a toddler drive-in, right? I had to remind him to take bites of lunch because he was so into the action :)
I know that this would be exciting enough on a normal day, but please try to picture a busy construction site in front of you and five firetrucks parked NEXT TO YOU in the same moment! Yeah...the firefighters were doing some drills in empty houses next to the work site, and we got to watch them a bit in between dumptruck loads!
When Luke picked up his "TRUCKS" book, I thought it was sign to move on so we headed to campus lake to visit some waterfowl with some leftover bread. We fed ducks and then a gaggle of geese came over looking for what they missed. Luke just held on to his bread and took a nibble now and then. He didn't quite understand sharing perfectly good bread when he could eat it!
We ran around for about 45 minutes and Luke still didn't want to leave. My meter was out of time, though, so we came home and explored the yard before heading out to dinner with Daddy. No nap due to all of the excitement and he was in his crib, curled up with his favorite blanket at 6:50. In case I haven't been clear, it was a good day!

Keep your hands off the vehicles
Luke has become very orderly about his many 4 wheeled or 2 tracked toys. He likes to line them up in specific places and if Steve or I try to 'help' it leads most often to some kind of a meltdown. So...we just enjoy seeing where things end up around the house. These pictures were all taken within an hour the other night. He wouldn't get into the tub until every object was lined up how he wanted it. They were then transported to the bar stool and to Luna's side for a different view of the world. 
Besides being organized and orderly, he is quite attached. When we ask him now if he is ready to go somewhere he goes to the door with no less than four cars, trucks or bulldozers wrapped in his arms. Just another little thing to love.

It has been a while
I haven't written in a while about the adoration that Luke receives from his grandparents. All four of them bring such love his way and such fun. He spent a few hours with Gma Susan and Gpa Paul this week, and here is the recap that I received the next morning. I am not sure who had the most fun? Gma? Gpa? or Luke?

We had a really good time with Luke today. It started with his playing with his track and cars followed by lunch which he totally devoured. He did his business just before we set out on a little adventure. Good timing! We went to the church where there was a huge crane set up to repair the roof. The operator was getting set to lock things up for lunch around 1 p.m., but when he saw Paul and Luke, he invited them over to take a closer look, AND THEN, MAGIC! He let Luke push the buttons to operate the crane! Yes, Luke's little finger maneuvered this huge piece of machinery. Fascinating, even to G-ma! I'm sure it was memorable to Luke, too. He was worn out with this and fell soundly asleep on the way to Marion to the cleaners. On the way back, we stopped by the Herrin City Park to say hi to our feathered friends, and there, we had some more fun with the park machinery. Back to Grandma and pa's for fun with bubbles. Grandpa needed to get cleaned up, and he loaded the bath with bubbles. Luke was amused and was about to jump in when Grandpa decided it was time to get out. We had a little piano music. Luke can climb up all by himself and self-starts his key-tickling. About this time, he was asking "Mama?" at about 4. The first time all day--a sure sign that he was having a good time. I told him that Mama wasn't coming, but that Daddy would soon be here. He understood perfectly and continued playing with his train. Decided to change him before Daddy arrived, and that's where Daddy found us. Only slight negative is that he didn't have a crib nap, which would probably have given him more restful sleep than in the car seat. We all just had a very fun time. He also had an oatmeal cookie as a snack. I made a recipe on the Craisins package which sounds similar to yours, only with cranberries, just brown sugar like yours. They do have some white chocolate chips in them. Pretty good stuff. Lunch was a cheese omelette, whole wheat toast with strawberry jam and some clementine slices. Juice mixed with water to drink.

An Adventure
Last Saturday, I had a baby shower and Steve had a lunch to attend but when he got home he suggested we hit the road and visit St. Louis for the day. woo - hoo I love when fun plans are suggested. We loaded up and got to shop for a few of our favorite things at Trader Joe's and then head to the zoo. Well, we got to town about 4:00, just as Luke passed out from all of the highway excitement (Can you believe how many trucks and cool motorized things you see on a 2 hour drive to St. Louis?) I did the TJ's power shoppping while Steve drove around with a snoozing Luke. Once I was done, we realized the zoo closed at 5, so we looked for other options. Whoa...this museum is a total crazy fun-filled sensory overload madhouse. You have to visit to get the whole idea but it was a great visit with lots of exploring and sensory overload (did I mention that?) I only took a few pictures while we explored the outdoor metal playland b/c it really took two of us to keep an eye on Luke. My favorite is my attempt at a timer family shot that is brilliant because Luke decided he needed the camera...love that face.
Just for the record we followed this fun up with a great dinner at Charlie Gitto's downtown...worth the visit for the amazing salad and generous wine pours alone!

We made it!
I love March. I know it will still be chilly and possibly rainy, but the good stuff is coming. Yippee! Some of that good stuff happens this month with Steve and I celebrating our 5th - oh wait, 4th - anniversary and a certain not-so-baby boy celebrating his SECOND birthday. Happy March, indeed!
P.S. Yes, I make a calendar each month. My dad told me I have too much time on my hands...he is probably right :)
